A candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) for the House of Representative election scheduled for February, 2015, Ms. Aisha Osori, on Tuesday announced that she was defecting from her party to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC)
Osori, who won the primary election for the candidacy of AMAC/Bwari federal constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city for the House of Representatives, made the declaration in Abuja at an informal press briefing held at APC national secretariat.
Osori , who is the CEO of the Nigerian Women’s Trust Fund, announced her decision after she was presented with the membership card of the APC.
She gave her reason for defecting to the APC as stemming from the way the opposition handled and organised its primary elections across the country.
She also expressed belief in the party’s choice of Professor Yemi Osinbajo, running mate for its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, revealing that Osinbajo was her lecturer back in school.
“I decided to denounce membership after watching the APC conduct its presidential primary in a fair and competitive manner and after seeing the combination of Osibanjo and Buhari, both men of integrity,” she said.
“Osibanjo used to teach me at the University of Lagos, faculty of law, I believe that is a great combination that would move the country forward and I want to be part of that team.”
She said the slogan of the APC, which is ‘Change’ was enough for any well-meaning Nigerian to support the party adding that most Nigerians, including youths, really yearn for change as being preached by the APC.
“The years of experience I garnered in the private sector as a lawyer and also as writer, first with Thisday and later with Leadership newspapers will be of value to APC,” Osori added.
National Secretary of the APC, Mai-Mala Buni, who presented the party’s membership card to Osori, commended her for taking the decision adding that the APC was getting stronger with each passing day.
He said the party’s doors are open to receive as many Nigerians as possible.
