In a bid to return President Goodluck Jonathan to Aso Rock in the 2015 general elections several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have made the pilgrimage to the Hilltop residence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta the capital of Ogun State, curry his support for the incumbent president.
On Thursday, Governor of Cross River State Liyel Imoke and Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan were seen arriving the former presidents house around 12pm
Other governors whose identity could not be immediately confirmed were noticed to have arrived later. None of them entertained any questions from reporters.
An inside source, who confirmed that the visit was pre-scheduled also revealed that all the governors were from the PDP and that they came to persuade Obasanjo not to abandon the party at this crucial moment when his support is highly needed.
He explained that throughout Wednesday night Obasanjo had discussed with his aides on the preparation for the visit and the response to issue.
He said Obasanjo held that he is still a staunch member of PDP and that he was not fighting anybody but cannot accept an indicted fellow to be his leader.
The source also said one of the reasons the governors visited was to entreat Obasanjo to stop giving tacit support to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in its quest to dislodge the ruling PDP from the presidential seat.
