After months of preparations with several intrigues, 12 aspirants will on Thursday jostle for the governorship ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in one of the party’s stronghold, Lagos State, western Nigeria.
Those vying for the ticket are Senator Ganiu Olanrewaju Solomo, GOS; former Accountant General of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode; Lagos Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Kadri Hamzat; and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Supo Sasore.
Others are Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan; former Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Tola Kasali; Mr. Abayomi Sutton; former Chief Details to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Mr Tayo Ayinde; Lanre Ope, Adetokunbo Wahab.
The jostling is taking a very interesting edge because all the aspirants are on a seemingly uniform pedestal, as none of them would be invoking the powers of incumbency.
Political watchers believe the APC primaries would be the most important event in determining the next governor of the state because of its nature as one of the perty’s strongholds.
The primaries would be held in all constituencies across the state and the overall result would be announced at the party’s secretariat, Acme Road, Ogba in Lagos.
