The Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN) in the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) of Lagos state on Monday declared that it could no longer bear the constraint imposed on the union by the state government.
Members of the union also made it known that they were embarking on an industrial action to press home their grievances which include the non-remittance of their 17-month pension fund deducted from their salaries, as well as poor funding.
Members of the union who stormed the office of the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, in protest, also complained against the non-remittance of their deductions of over N150 million meant for the institution’s cooperative society.
In a communique released to journalists during the protest, the union resolved to commence a line-up of decisive industrial actions, saying that until their demands are met, they would not stand down.
The communique, as presented to Huhuonline.com, stated that the 2013 promotion letters should be released to the beneficiaries and packages of staff going to principal and chief lecturers be sent out, while 2014 promotion exercise should commence without delay.
“The management should commence payment of all outstanding honoraria to members and all pension deductions made by the management should also be remitted,” the communique read.
