Five residents of Kano State were killed in an explosion which occurred while Christians were worshipping at the St Charles Catholic Church, around the ‘No Man’s Land’ area in Kano State on Sunday.

Police spokesman Frank Mba confirmed the death of the five people, saying eight others were injured in the attack.

Earlier, the police had successfully disconnected explosives from a car parked close to a mosque and primed to explode after the Sallah prayer on Sunday.

Frank Mba said as part of the on-going investigations into the incidents police operatives in the ancient city have arrested five male suspects for their role in the attacks.

Two of the men were arrested in connection with the foiled bomb attack at Isyaku Rabiu Mosque, while three were arrested in connection with the attack at St Charles Church.

According to Mba, the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.

“Intensive patrols are ongoing, citizens are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) or activities to security forces,” he advised.
