The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday commenced impeachment proceedings against the State Governor, Umaru Al-Makura, directing the clerk of the House, Ego Maikeffi, to serve the governor an impeachment notice.
Al-Makura is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His counterpart in Taraba State, Murtala Nyako is also facing a similar dilemma from the State House of Assembly currently.
According to the lawmakers, the impeachment notice follows an allegation of gross misconduct as well as misappropriation of funds as contained in a 16-count charge which also contains alleged extra-budgetary expenses.
The notice was signed by the 20 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers out of the total 24 lawmakers that make up the House. The remaining four are members of the APC.
The notice came the same day President Goodluck Jonathan visited the state to commission a rice farm in the Doma area of the state.
