The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB), has concluded that the cut-off mark for admissions into Universities in 2014 is 180, while 150 will be the cut-off mark for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education(COE).
Jamb set the The cut-off points at the 5th Combined Policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Wednesday.
While declaring the meeting open,
Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike lamented the inability of most tertiary institutions to fill their admission quota. He thus, threatened that in spite of the efforts to boost access to tertiary institutions, any school which fails to fill its admission quota for 2014 will be penalised.
“This disservice to the Nigerian child is totally unacceptable,” Wike said.
“With effect from today, work assiduously to ensure that all admission spaces in your institutions for the current year are fully utilised within the approved time frame.”
Dibu Ojerinde, registrar and chief executive of JAMB, in his presentation at the forum revealed that after the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME), candidates who applied to degree awarding institutions or universities totalled 1,584,348 representing 97 percent, National Certificate in Education (NCE) applicants were 25,767 representing 1.579 percent, National Diploma (ND) 22,072 representing 1.349 percent while NID had a mere 46 representing 0.003 percent.
