The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State Chapter, has on Wednesday accused the state’s governor, Rotimi Amaechi as being responsible for the recent mass influx of suspected Boko Haram members into South-Southern and South-Eastern states of Nigeria, with his consistent and unhidden revolutionary activities and series of calls and incitement for revolution against the Federal Government.
According to a statement by Jerry Needam, special adviser, on media to the state PDP chairman Felix Obuah, PDP strongly believes Amaechi and his allies in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have visibly taken resolute position in doing everything possible to rubbish the Jonathan administration’s image, one of which is to use all mercenaries at their disposal to cause breach of public peace, killings, destruction and tension in the land.
“PDP wonders why the mass movement of 486 suspected insurgents into the South three days after the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja, during which Governor Amaechi took time to address his fellow party members, as it was beamed live on national television, calling for revolution, charging them to be fully involved in the revolutionary movement which the APC is poised to carry out against the government in power,” Needam said.
“The PDP believes there cannot be any explanation other than the fact that these suspects, who apparently had Port Harcourt as their final destination and discharge point, were brought in not without the consent of the Governor and enemies of the federal government.”
He said the party recalls that during APC’s registration exercise in Rivers State when Amaechi masterminded similar incident where over 300 youths were moved in several buses from northern part of the country into the state, the purpose of which the PDP uncovered, was to register them as APC members in the state.
“To us as a Party, what all of these portend is a situation of war declared by the governor against the federal government and the masses, as well as a prelude to the anticipated total insecurity and wanton destruction of lives and properties by the Governor and the APC forces during the coming elections in the country,” he continued.
“The PDP however believes that the voice of the people is the voice of God and that a single voice (Amaechi and the APC) calling for anarchy in the land will definitely fail.
It is in the light of the above that the PDP urges the good people of Rivers State, the people of the South-East and South-South and indeed all Nigerians to resist the evil that has reel its ugly head into the area, as they are elements of doom.”
Needam called for stiff resistance against Amaechi’s attempts to destroy the state for selfish political ambition, and the unpatriotic means of crapping power employed by the APC.
He commended the Police for promptly combating the crimes, by arresting the first 300 suspects in Port Harcourt and the latest 486 in Abia State as they head for Rivers State.
“May we again urge all security agencies in the country to strictly place the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi and his allies in the APC under serious surveillance, as doing that will help in forestalling further movements of illegal immigrants and violent elements, as well as strengthens peace and security in the state and the country,” Needam concluded.
