Six persons have been arrested in connection with two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted at the Living Faith Church (a.k.a. Winners’Chapel), Owerri, Imo State.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Abdulmajid Ali, made the disclosure on Sunday while speaking to journalists at the church premises along Port Harcourt Road Owerri.
Ali said the Police was informed that there were strange object in the church premises, but on reaching the site, the objects were ‘two timed bombs’.
“We were alerted that some devices were seen in the church and immediately we deployed our anti-bomb squad,” Ali said. “We are happy that the squad immediately detonated the bomb on arrival and six persons have been arrested so far.”
Ali said the command would do everything possible to bring the matter to a logical conclusion.
He calmed the resident down, assuring them that the bombs have been defused.
He warned the people to remain vigilant and cautious.
“We are worried about the development but people should be vigilant. People should be very curious about anything they see within their surroundings. People should not pick up anything. They should contact the security agencies any time they see strange objects,” Ali said.
Following the incident, Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has condemned act, applauding the security agencies for a job well done.
He urged the state residents to be security conscious at all times and to promptly report any strange objects or movement around them to security agencies.
