The National Industrial Court (NIC) has fixed 4th July, for the hearing of a suit filed by former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Malam Sanusi-Lamido Sanusi, challenging his suspension from the position by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The case was adjourned by Justice Babatunde Adejumo on Friday, after Sanusi’s counsel Kola Awodein (SAN), prayed the court for adjournment in order to avail him time to consult with his client who has recently become the Emir of Kano.

The Lead counsel to the Attorney General, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) did not object to the application

The case had been transferred to the NIC by Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in May after he observed that his court lacked jurisdiction to handle it.

Kolawale had maintained that suit was a Labour-related matter between an employer and his employee and thus it falls within the purview and exclusive jurisdiction of the President of NIC. Upon transfer to the NIC, the Inspector-General of Police, who had earlier been joined as a co-defendant in the suit was removed, on the prayer of his counsel, Solomon Umoh (SAN).

Sanusi, in the originating summons, had urged the court to restrain the defendants from obstructing, disturbing, stopping or preventing him in any manner whatsoever, from performing his functions as Governor of the Central Bank.
