Demonstrators protesting against the emergence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir, succeeding the late Alhaji Ado Bayero have continued till Monday, leading to the closure of schools in the city.

Apart from closure of schools, extra security operatives were stationed in banks premises in the area.
On Sunday, the demonstration had been concentrated at Kofar Kudu area, near the emir’s palace, The protesters had set tyres on fire and mounted road blocks, shouting, “Ba muso, ba muso,” meaning, “We don’t want, we don’t want’’ in apparent reference to the choice of Sanusi by the state government, witnesses said.
On Monday, in Sabon Gari, a predominantly Christian residential area, shops remained locked, business owners taken precautions agains looting that usually accompanies such protests.
However, there was a beehive of activities at Government offices with civil servants at their duty posts.
Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, confirmed the uprising.
“Yes, we have some security challenges at hand but we have deployed counter measures to address them,” he said.
