Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday disclosed that 250 prisoners who are currently camped in Kaduna and Ikoyi Prisons would be sitting for its forthcoming matriculation examination where the candidates will answer test questions using the computer.
The inmates would be among the over 616,000 candidates who would sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Computer-Based Test (CBT).
In a statement released by the board’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, in Lagos, JAMB said that arrangements has been concluded for the smooth conduct of the examination, which will hold between 17th and 31st May in over 163 centres in Nigeria and abroad.
“Over 616,000 candidates are expected to sit for the examination with over 250 prisoners in Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons. The CBT remains the best mode as it provides better platform for the candidates to articulate their educational pursuit,” Benjamin said in the statement.
“It eliminates result black-out or incomplete results and eliminates examination malpractice and enhances prompt release of scores two hours after the examination, among other benefits too numerous to mention.”
Benjamin urged candidates to prepare for the examination, noting that the CBT was the best platform for candidates to articulate their educational pursuits. He added that CBT would reduce result black-out or incomplete results and examination malpractices, just as it would enhance immediate release of scores.
Benjamin advised the candidates to reprint their e-slips in case they miss or misplace their schedules. He assured that the board would commence full-blown CBT, where the exams would be fully automated, in 2015 UTME.
