For the three days that the World Economic Forum will hold in Abuja, the Federal Government has ordered the closure of all government offices and schools so as to ensure free flow of traffic during this period.

The forum is scheduled to hold between 7th and 9th May.

It is also believed that with the directive, movement of people would reduce during the period.

“This is to inform the general public that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck  Jonathan, GCFR, has approved, as part of arrangements for the successful hosting of the World Economic Forum Africa, that all government offices and schools in the Federal Capital Territory, expect those on essential services, are to be closed from Wednesday, 7th to Friday, 9th May, 2014,” a statement signed and released by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, on Friday evening said.

The statement also suggested that private organisations with large number of staff should also close for the period.

However, according to a security source, the order could be as a result of the need to ensure adequate security of the city during this period.

“Any attack on any part of the city during that period could result in confusion and distraction and the least the government expects now is embarrassment,” he told Huhuonline.com.

Meanwhile banks around Nyanya and Mararaba area of Abuja refused to open for transaction on Friday following fears of insecurity after the Zuba Park was attacked late Thursday.

The scene of the recent attack is just opposite the Nyanya Motor Park that was attacked barely three weeks ago.

Customers who had thronged the bank for various financial transactions were left confused as they met the gates of the banks under lock and keys.

Also, due to the impact of the attack on the Nyanya Motor Park by the insurgents days ago, the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Micah Jiba, has disclosed plans to create a new park and relocate motorists who originally used the Nyanya Park. He refused to mention the proposed relocation site.
