Chairman, South East Governors Forum and Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji and other stakeholder’s of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East geopolitical zone, have unanimously urged President Goodluck Jonathan to run for a second term in 2015 general elections.
The southeasterners pledged their allegiance to Jonathan on Friday at a unity rally of the party held at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, assuring him of their unflinching support.
The stakeholders charged Jonathan that he should never reject trust bequeathed in him. They said they would do anything, including conscripting him, if he refuses to declare his intention to continue in office.
Addressing the rally, Governor Theodore Orji lauded Jonathan’s performance and told the audience that he deserves a second term in office. Orji encouraged Jonathan to heed the call by the South East to seek re-election.
Responding to the request, Jonathan assured the rally audience that he would never disappoint them even though time was not ripe for him to declare whether to run or not.
Jonathan, urged Igbo people to support PDP.
“The PDP would not disappoint you”, he assured.
He bragged that the PDP was the only democratic party that could take Nigeria to join the rest of the democratic world.
“It is the only party where the President would not impose a candidate”, he said. It is the only party where people like me from a non-privileged background can stand here and talk”.
The President promised that PDP would capture Imo State in 2015 and complete the circle in the South-East.
“In the South-East, the PDP is total. Every state has a maximum of three senators. It is now clear the South-East is a PDP zone”, Jonathan added.
“We will take over the governorship seat of the other state in the South-East come 2015. We have been very magnanimous but we are going to clear the seats totally”.
However, Senate President, David Mark, charged the president to ignore criticisms of his government and remain focused in the transformation programme of his government.
Mark appealed to Jonathan not to be distracted by criticisms, saying they would only make him better.
