Editor,
Your editorials are most often worrisome, as they appear to be some form of frontal attack on Mr. President, seeing nothing wrong in the ignorance displayed at length by the Northern governors.
While one applauds some salient points made in your editorial, it still leaves much to be desired. This is politics, where else could a party member raise disturbing issues like betrayal and display of absolute ignorance and naivity by some politicians in a government if not in a rally like the president did. Are you saying education of citizens of a region who are engrossed in insurgency is irrelevant?
Hear this? Out of 53 years of governance in Nigeria, the North ruled for 30yrs and saw nothing wrong in the education backwardness of the region. The youths, rather got engaged in insurgency and being killed in the process. As a president you’ll ignore the facts that are steering at you in the face? This administration established 10 universities in the North and 125 Almajari schools to engage youths meaningfully. In the long run, this will become a lasting solution of some sort because education transforms the minds of a people.
Northern governors are chief security officers in their states yet failed to address the insecurity issues. It’s obvious they have also failed as governors. Perhaps they expect the president run their states for them. It is obvious they are not ready to work with Mr. President and that’s why the insecurity issues persist. The president can only work within the confines of the law as provided in the constitution.
Probably, by implication, it is safe to say Northern governors created the monster called Boko Haram but did not expect it to go out of hand. It is unthinkable to say Mr. President is trying to reduce the voting power of the North with B/Haram. Invariably, Boko Haram is a creation of the presidency.
The same governors opposed state of emergency in the North. Ok, let them proffer solution to the problem, they could not. They found it pertinent to seek solution from White house in DC. How ignorant are these adult governors? It could be anyone’s guess.
This president, I believe sometimes, follows too much protocols while things go bad. These governors should be called to order. For all you know they could be conspirators. What the time demands from the president now, is to declare a full state of emergency while the governors go home for 6months. If this is done, they’ll all wake up and B’Haram will be laid to rest.
