Four persons convicted of involvement of homosexuality in Bauchi State have been sentenced by an Upper Sharia Court to 15 strokes of the cane, in addition to paying a fine of N20, 000 each.
Of the seven men arrested by the Bauchi State Sharia Commission and charged with the offence, Shehu Adamu, Yusuf A Adsamu, Aliyu Dalhatu and Abdulamalik Tanko were found guilty. They were arraigned before the Upper Sharia Court in Anguwan Jaki area of Bauchi.
After sentencing the quartet to the punishment, the presiding judge, El-Yakub Aliyu said hearing on the case involving the three other suspects — Ibrahim Marafa, Aminu Ibrahim Sadik Usman Sabo, and Hazif Abubakar — would hold at a later date.
He said the trial was held in private due to security reasons, adding that the punishments would have been heavier had the suspects being caught red-handded while committing the offence.
Aliyu also said that Aliyu Dalhatu and Abdullahi Tanko confessed to committing the crime four years ago, but they had already repented by the time the Hisbah Commission arrested them.
