The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Friday implored the Federal Government to comprehensively review its present strategies for combating acts of terrorism in north-eastern Nigeria because the present methods are not yielding expected results.
The governors also condemned, in very strong terms, the massacre of 53 students of the Federal Government College, Bunu Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State by gunmen believed to be members of Boko Haram.
“We also believe the time has come for the Federal Government to comprehensively review the strategies with which it is fighting this insurgency”, Chairman of NGF and Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi wrote on behalf of his colleagues.
“The current approach is definitely not working and it is important that all of us are humble and sincere enough to accept this reality and then work out a stronger and more workable strategy”.
The governors acknowledged that this is a very difficult time for Nigeria, and therefore implored everyone to rise in support of the families of the students who were slaughtered.
“Those who are aggrieved must realise that violence can never be a solution to the nation’s problems”, the statement added.
