President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
Tukur, who was forced to resign his chairmanship of the ruling party last week on the insistence of top figures in the party, replaces former Chairman of the breakaway faction of the party, Alhaji Abubaka Baraje, who himself resigned from NRC in November 2013.
Jonathan also appointed Dr. Ghaji Ismaila Bello as Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC).
“His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has approved the following appointments: (i) Alhaji Bamanga Tukur — as Chairman, Nigerian Railway Corporation; (ii) Dr. Ghaji Ismaila Bello — as Director-General, National Population Commission, with effect from 8th January 2014”, Special Assistant on Media to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi wrote in a statement.
