Beleaguered Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur on Wednesday allegedly tendered his resignation letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, even though it is yet to be made public, Huhuonline.com can confirm.

However, the resignation is expected to be publicly announced today at the meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), by which time the president is expected to have fashioned out the best way of presenting the matter in a manner consistent with Tukur’s series of please not to be publicly humiliated.

According to a source, Tukur’s plea for a face-saving exit is the reason the party did not issue any statement on his resignation after Wednesday’s Caucus Meeting, as well as the meeting of governors with the president, and that of the Board of Trustees (BoT).

The script is that after a motion on Tukur’s resignation is formally announced at Thursday’s NEC meeting, it will be seconded and subsequently approved, with members thanking him for his service to the party during his chairmanship reign.

Although news of Tukur’s resignation was reported in the media yesterday, his special adviser on media, Olivier Okpara denied it, saying Tukur was still the national chairman of the PDP and describing the story as the handiwork of his detractors.

“Mr. Tukur will be attending the Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting of the party on Wednesday night at 6pm and will also attend the National Executive Committee meeting of the party on Thursday at 12pm”, he had said.

Over the last couple of days, Tukur has done everything to save his job, including meeting President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa to plead for presidential intervention, assuring that he would reconcile with the aggrieved members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other leaders of the party.
