Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has denied that Monday’s death of 46-year-old Hajiya Belkisu Mahmoud occurred in his office, but rather at the Minna General Hospital some 30 minutes after she was rushed there by an ambulance.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the board of Niger State Geographic Information Service (NIGIS), Aliyu admitted that the deceased came to see him, and they had valuable conversations with her on activities of some government agencies, after which she began gasping for breath.
“The woman came into my office panting, initially I thought it was because of the staircase she climbed but she told me that she was sick and has a heart problem”, he recalled.
“She came to complain on some issues in the state; and as she was speaking, she started coughing. At a point, she requested for the bag containing her drugs, which she left in the waiting room”.
He added that when he discovered that her condition was not improving, he requested for an ambulance to fetch her to the hospital.
“Contrary to reports that I left the office immediately, I want to state here that I was in the office till late in the evening, waiting to hear report about her health”, he maintained, assuring that he would examine the issues that late Belkisu came to complain of
