Some members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Michika Local Government Area, Adamawa State have protested the “imposition” of Mr. Ezekiel Zira as Chairman of the party in the area.
In a letter delivered to the secretariat of the state chapter of the party in Yola, spokesman of the protesting group, Alhaji Sabo Garta described the nomination and swearing-in of Zira as Party Chairman of Michika Local Government Area as unacceptable.
“Members of the party in Michika had a consensus to nominate Mr Daniel Tumba as Chairman after three other contestants for the position stepped down for him”, he said.
“As far as we know, Daniel Tumba has the full mandate and full support of the people of Michika and should be sworn in as the authentic party chairman in Michika Local Government Area. We vehemently declare the fictitious swearing in of Ezekiel Zira as party chairman of Michika Local Government null and void or just an empty threat”.
In his response, Chairman of PDP Adamawa State, Chief Joel Madaki commended the protesters for peaceful airing their voices, before assuring them that the matter would be examined.
“PDP believes in internal democracy and would not hesitate in treating genuine complaints emanating from members”, Madaki said. “I like the way you channelled your complaint by following the due process. I will use this opportunity to urge other members of the party who have complaints to emulate your action”.
