The new PDP has merged with the All Progressives Congress, APC. Announcing the merger, Tuesday, Mr. Abubakar Baraje, said the two parties agreed “to work together in order to rescue the fledgling democracy of the nation.

The merger happened after months of intense speculation headlined by series of failed attempts to repair damaged interests in the ruling party, the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (new PDP)  finally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Expected to make the move alongside the seven aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the nPDP arrowheads are their loyalists and former Governors Bukola Saraki of Kwara, Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa and Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa.

The seven governors — such as Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, Governor Wammako of Sokoto — were admitted into the party at a brief ceremony witnessed by Interim APC Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and national leaders of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and General Muhammadu Buhari.

Bisi Akande made the announcement at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro Abuja, with all the seven governors in attendance. Tinubu described the event as significant for the country, saying “What is important is not the numerical strength but the character and commitment of people committed to change”.
