President Jonathan will leave Abuja for Bayelsa State on Thursday to participate in the burial ceremonies of his younger brother, Chief Meni Innocent Jonathan, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati has confirmed.

Meni’s death at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Tuesday 20th November 2012, coincided with the president’s 55th birthday and his trip to Turkey to attend a session of the D-8.

“Chief Jonathan is to be laid to rest on Saturday, 8th December 2012 at his hometown, Otuoke, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State,” read a part of Dr. Abati’s statement.

“His remains will be conveyed from Abuja to Otuoke on Friday, 7th December 2012 and will be received by the Otuoke Council of Chiefs at the Otuoke Community Hall at 2.30pm on the same day.”

Also, a Service of Songs will be held in honour of late Meni Jonathan at the Dame Patience Jonathan Square, Otuoke at 6pm the same day, while a commendation service will be held at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke at 10 am on Saturday, after which his interment at the end of the commendation service will wrap up the burial rites.
