Workers in Delta State have told the state government to either reverse excessive taxation on salaries of workers within 14 days or risk an industrial action from public servants.

In a letter by the State Council of the National Public Service Negotiating Council and endorsed by State Secretary of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Mr. Lucky Edewor to Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uguaghan, the workers also demanded full implementation of the minimum wage as well as an end to the housing fund in the state.

“The state Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, hereby issues 14 days ultimatum to the state government to address the matter referred to in the communiqué dated September 19, 2013 as well as the obnoxious issue of excessive taxation of workers’ salaries, partial implementation of the minimum wage and stoppage of National Housing Fund in Delta State”, read a part of the letter.

“Failure by the state government to address the above itemised issues within 14 days, all workers in public service of the state will commence an indefinite industrial action (strike) from November 19.”
