An Abeokuta, Ogun State High Court on Thursday adjourned the continuation of proceedings in a criminal case instituted against former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until 6th February 2014.
Ex-Governor Daniel has been facing charges of corruption in office bordering on alleged fraudulent conversion of land and public funds to personal use.
Adjourning the case, the trial judge, Justice Olarenwaju Mabekoje said it was necessary to enable the Court of Appeal, Ibadan, deliver judgment on an appeal of its 8th January 2013 ruling filed by Daniel to challenge the dismissal of his plea to quash counts 1-13 of the 38 charges levelled against him by the anti-graft agency in the subsisting suit.
Counsel to Daniel, Titilola Akinlawon told the court that her client’s appeal had been argued at the Appeal Court and that the court is preparing a judgement. She thus urged for an adjournment to a date after 28th January 2014 when the judgment would have been given in respect of the appeal.
