The New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) chaired by Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has taken over Gombe State, effectively dislodging the faction of the party chaired by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
According to the New PDP, this was amply demonstrated on Monday 4th November 2013, when Gombe trooped out in their thousands, conveyed by more than 600 vehicles, and assembled at the Gombe Airport to welcome leader of the New PDP in the state, Senator Danjuma Goje, the immediate past governor of Gombe, who was visiting the state after a very long time.
Goje, a staunch member of the New PDP, is fondly remembered for his revolutionary regime that yielded remarkable feats in the areas of road construction, health, education, rural development and provision of potable water, which made him the toast of the masses of Gombe State.
“Already, panic has set in, in Tukur’s faction of the PDP, which recently engineered the arrest of the populist Barrister Mohammed Magaji Doho, a former commissioner of water resources during the administration of Senator Mohammed Goje and presently the state chairman of New PDP, along with 68 of our members,” National Publicity Secretary of the New PDP, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Ez wrote in a statement.
“This persecution notwithstanding, the masses of Gombe have chosen to pitch their tent with the ever-growing New PDP family.
“New PDP, which is currently the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics, presently boasts seven governors, with five more about to join the group. The party also parades a large number of lawmakers both at the National Assembly and at the state level.”
As at press time, the Tukur faction of the party hadn’t issued a formal; reaction to this development neither had the corresponding state chapter of the party.
