The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of Mrs. Augusta Douglas-Ayam, the elder sister of Mr. Oronto Douglas, Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Research, Documentation and Strategy.

Mrs. Douglas-Ayam was reportedly kidnapped at about 8pm on Monday  in Ogbia, Bayelsa state, by unknown gunmen.

The Commissioner of Police, Hilary Opara, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Yenagoa, said he visited the scene of the kidnap.

He explained that no arrest had been made but that the Marine Police had been deployed to the creeks to assist in rescuing the victim.

The Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Alex Akhigbe also confirmed the incident and said the police had begun a man-hunt for the abductors.

However,the incident has thrown the family members into confusion especially as the abductors had not made any contact.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Markson Fefegha, expressed shock over the incident reiterating the state government’s move to stamp out insecurity from the state.

According to him, the incident is sad and embarrassing especially as it happened at a time the present administration is recording great successes in the area of sustaining the existing peace.

He expressed optimism that the security agencies would go after the kidnappers and swiftly rescue her.
