Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Usman Gangara and his deputy, Dogara Mato have been impeached, as Vice President Namadi Sambo continues his onslaught against members of the party in the state not loyal to him.

Both principal officers are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Giwa East and Lere constituencies, respectively. They are considered loyal to politicians in the state opposed to the vice president.

They were impeached by 19 out of 34 members who picked their colleague, Shehu Tahir as the new speaker. The House also dissolved all standing committees and eight principal offices.

Member of the House, Kantiok Isiaku moved the motion for impeachment and it was seconded by Yakubu Yusuf. The House had earlier given the impeached Speaker the option of resigning voluntarily.

Mana, a representative of Makera Constituency on the platform of the PDP, presided over the impeachment and announced the election of Shehu Tahir, representative of Giwa West, and Peter Adamu, representative of Kagarko, as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively. The two are also PDP members.

In his acceptance speech, the new speaker said the quorum of members required for the impeachment is 13, but the House action was supported by 19 members. He alsodenied Sambo’s involvement in the impeachment, saying the House would soon announce the appointment of new principal officers.
