The new PDP, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar,Monday, received a boost, as one- fourth of the members of the Nigerian upper legislative arm, the Senate, has lined up behind them.
In a press statement sent to huhuonline.com, 22 out of the 109 Senators lauded the action of the breakaway leaders, saying, their decision provides a soothing balm that will calm frail nerves in the party.
The Senators stated that by their action, they have written their names in gold and will be remembered in our political history as men that stood to save the party and Nigeria s democracy.

“We heartily rejoice with our patriots and eminent Nigerians led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar GCON, and the Governors of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aliyu Wammako, (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Abdul Fattah Ahmed (kwara), and Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), for the bold, swift and courageous step to reposition the People’s Democratic Party under a new leadership.”
“We congratulate the new chairman, Alhaji Abdulahi Kawu Baraje, the Deputy Chairman, Dr Sam Sam Jaja, National secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinola and other members of the National Executive Committee for their emergence as leaders of our great party.”

PDP Faction Very Determined to Sanitise Party
However,the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not relent until it has achieved a renewed and formidable PDP, its leadership has said.
Secretary of the faction, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Chairman Kawu Baraje signed a release on Monday, saying it has received enormous support from members of the party as well as leaders across many states of the federation.
According to Oyinlola, the group will relentlessly pursue its mission of transforming the party in the interest of its founders and the Nigerian people.
However, he revealed that the faction would honour the request of leaders of the party, particularly, President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to attend a scheduled meeting of the party elders before the end of the week.
“We respect the elders,” he said, “and will be guided by them even as we stress that we will not abandon the ideals of justice and fairness.”
