Ahead of the party convention in preparation for the 2015 general elections, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has commenced the performance assessment of political office holders elected and appointed on the ticket of the party.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Aba Road State Party Secretariat, Chairman of the committee, Hon Osinakachukwu Ideozu said the essence of the exercise is not to witch-hunt anybody but to examine how the officers elected to oversee the welfare of the people have discharged their responsibilities in line with public expectations and to be better informed in preparing for future elections.

Ideozu revealed that those invited include, Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru; all state commissioners of PDP fold; the three senators from the state; the 13 members of the Federal House of Representatives; the five members of the State House of Assembly; all council chairmen; former National Deputy Chairman of PDP, Dr Sam-Sam Jaja; and former National Organizing Secretary, who also was a former state chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus.

He also explained that the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the 27 other members of the State House of Assembly were not invited because of the issues associated with their suspension.

Those billed for Thursday, August 22, 2013 were former National Deputy Chairman, Dr Sam Sam Jaja; former National Organising Secretary, Prince Secondus; and all the council chairmen.

“The invitations were safely delivered to all those concerned and it is hoped that they would honour the call since it is a party invitation, and the assessment exercise is expected to last for only three days,” Special Assistant on Media to Rivers State PDP Chairman, Jerry Needam confirmed in a  release.

Meanwhile, former National Organising Secretary, and former State Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus has described the ongoing performance assessment of all political office holders of the PDP fold as an excellent idea so that the officers will be up and doing. He said this while chatting with newsmen after meeting with the committee on Thursday.

He said he deemed it necessary to submit himself to the committee to render the account of his stewardship as a loyal party member and because the order is from the party, noting that he had just done that and very well too.

“Anybody current with what is going on all over the world will know that politics is dynamic and we cannot be left out of the changing situation. The idea is very much in order,” Secondus said.

On the forthcoming special party convention, Secondus praised the Special Convention Committee for its good job and expressed hope that their efforts would culminate in a successful convention. He also urged all party members involved in the performance assessment exercise to humbly answer the clarion call in the overall interest of the PDP.
