Huhuonline.com understands that an explosion has rocked a military protestant church located within the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Igabi local government area in Kaduna state.Sunday’s suicide bomb attacks have resulted in deaths to 11 people and injuries to another 30 as at first count, according to military officials.
According to military sources, a suicide bomber drove a bus into the barracks and aimed straight for the wall of the church, where it exploded. After 10 minutes, another vehicle blew up outside the church.
The first blast had actually failed to kill or injure anyone but probing members of the congregation converged on the scene of the crash to catch a view of the resultant debris only to be hit by the devastating second blast, leading to deaths and injuries to many of the onlookers. As typical of such blasts, the casualty figure may rise in the coming hours, depending on the severity of injuries sustained.
While no group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast, all attention will, expectedly, focus on the Boko Haram Islamic fundamentalist sect, which has been spearheading a seesaw war against the Federal government in its bid to enthrone Islamic Sharia Law in Nigeria’s multi-religious set up, consequently targeting religious institutions and security agencies.
In June 2012, more than 50 people died in bombings in Kaduna State and the resulting reprisals; and nearly a month ago, another seven people died in a suicide bombing at a Roman Catholic Church in the north-central state.
Only two days ago, the Joint Task Force (JTF) had revved up its haunt of top members and point men of the Boko Haram Islamist sect by promising a minimum of N10m and maximum of N50m as reward for members of the public who provide information that would lead to the arrest of specifically listed individuals.
