The motorcycle rider who was shot dead on Tuesday by a policeman in Ikorodu, Lagos while resisting the arrest of his motorcycle has been identified as Olalekan.
Olalekan died on the spot after the policeman fired three shots at him. At the Ikorodu General Hospital where his corpse was deposited, vehicles of the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) were mounted while management of the hospital locked the gates ostensibly to prevent trouble from his friends and other motorcycle riders waiting outside the premises.
Already, the riders’ association in the area has demanded the immediate arrest and trial of the trigger-happy policeman, whose name was given as Haruna. Riders speaking outside the hospital premises said Haruna has the tradition of demanding bribed of between N5000 and N15000 from riders he feels are plying illegal routes.
