Deputy Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Inuwa Sule Udi, is dead.Udi died in Kano on Thursday night while travelling to Ringim, Jigawa, his home state.
It was learnt that the car conveying the 52-year-old was involved in an accident in Jogana Village along Kano-Hadejia Road.The late Udi had been a lawmaker in the state, representing Ringim Constituency at the state Assembly since 1999. He was elected Deputy Speaker after the 2003 elections and has retained the office ever since.
He is survived by two wives and some children.
Among the early mourners of the deputy speaker was President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who described the death as “very painful and untimely,” and extended his condolences to Udi’s family, the speaker and members of the state Assembly, and the government and people of Jigawa State.
The president expressed “utter shock” at the death, saying Jigawa State and the nation would miss the legislative experience of Honourable Udi, a third-term member of the State House of Assembly.
He also prayed that God Almighty would console members of the Udi family and grant the soul of the departed lawmaker peaceful rest.
