… Obasa, 2 others absent

At the first plenary of the Lagos State House of Assembly since the Impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, the lawmakers appointed other principal officers of the House.

Recall that Obasa was removed as Speaker on Monday following various allegations from his colleagues. He had travelled to the United States of America before his impeachment.

His colleagues replaced him with Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, his former deputy, who, thereafter, dissolved the principal offices and standing committees.

On Friday, the former Speaker was absent at the sitting. Also absent were his closest ally in the House, Hon. Nureni Akinsanya. The former Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, was said to be absent too.

Rt. Hon. Meranda then announced Hon. Temitope Adewale as the new Majority Leader while Richard Adedamola Kasunmu retained his position as Deputy Majority Leader. Hon. Setonji David was elevated from the position of Deputy Chief Whip to Chief Whip while Sanni Okanlawon is the new Deputy Chief Whip.

The House had earlier named Hon. Mojeed Fatai as the new Deputy Speaker.

It is yet to be ascertained if Obasa will continue as a legislator representing Agege Constituency 1 upon his return from the United States of America. However, he is currently being awaited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
