Earlier today we broke the story of how four pro Amaechi governors were prevented from leaving Port Harcourt International Airport by armed miscreants backed by the Presidency and the PDP. Excerpt of a press release issued by Ibim Semenitari, Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications revealed that sponsored thugs had a four litre keg suspected to contain some acid, which they were ready to use on the governors. However, as the governors left the airport clustered in one car, the thugs led by Mr. Samuel Nwanosike , Publicity Secretary of the River State Chapter of the PDP, hauled stones, bottled water,  acid and sticks damaging one of the   cars in the governors’ convoy.

Asked about Tuesday morning`s mayhem, the ring leader, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, Publicity Secretary of the River State Chapter of the PDP, said, “it was a “peaceful” protest, with Wike and PDP supporters “singing and dancing,” to show that they were not happy with the visit of the governors from the North.”

But pictures from the scene speaks volume of People Democratic Party`s idea of a peaceful protest.

Still, the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party through the media adviser to the State Chairman, Jerry Needam, insist that the peaceful protest by a group of  Rivers youths who gathered at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa this morning, Tuesday, July 16, 2013 was apparently to disapprove of the solidarity visit to Gov. Amaechi by four Northern Governors.

He queried when it became conventional for governors and politicians to pay solidarity visits to their colleagues in other states, abandoning their own responsibilities at home if they are not taking advantage of a tele-guided fellow who has turned the state to a goldmine to all manner of diggers at the expense of the deprived starved Rivers people.

While the party would not support any group of persons in whatever guise to indulge in any act that can breach the peace or brew crisis in the state, the party also demands to know why Governor Amaechi’s Information Commissioner would always describe those opposed to Ameachi’s excesses as thugs whether they are expressing their views on Paper, radio or physically, but when such protestations are in favour of Amaechi, such persons are hailed as solidarity visitors etc.

“On the visit by the Governors of Jigawa, Kano, Niger and Adamawa States as well as Prof. Wole Soyinka, we see it as unnecessary, and is only meant to aggravate the political crisis in the state. It’s the like of these visitors from across the country that are encouraging Amaechi not to have regard for the Rivers people, elders and constituted authorities in the state which is unfortunate.

This visit to Amaechi is certainly political and aimed at aggravating the crisis in the state and is therefore not welcomed by the people of the state. We also condemn in very strong terms Mrs. Ibim Semenitari’s attempt to link the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike to the protest against the visit of the four Northern governors to Govt. House Port Harcourt.

This is another strategy to divert the attention of the public from the numerous evil plots by Gov. Amaechi to ensure there is no peace in the state, so that he will continue to rip off the state with his few acolytes”, the PDP Media Adviser declared.
