A Nigerian lady, whose name has been given as Ameerah Sufyan, who last week faked her kidnap via Twitter, has apologized for her action.

“Good day all, I would like to formally apologise to the general public, to the whole police department and my friends and family for misleading them with the below tweet. Nothing of such happened and it was all just my delusions and negative thinking,” she Tweeted on Monday, following her discovery by the Police.

“I intentionally took myself out of our house, went to these locations, entered bushes, and dehydrated and starved myself for four days just like that. There was no kidnapping, nothing at all. I truly apologise and please pray for me. I need it.

Sufyan last Tuesday had set the social media buzzing when she alleged that she and 16 others had been kidnapped at gunpoint by men in police attire from different locations in Abuja. She added that the men were operating in a bus, and that those kidnapped along with her included pregnant women and children.

She displayed an aerial photograph, which allegedly showed the location where they had been taken to. According to her, she took the photo with her phone, alleging that she had been able to hide the phone from the captors.

“Please whoever has my WhatsApp number, I sent a broadcast message of my location,” she had written on her Twitter handle, @ameerah_sufyan.

In a country where kidnapping is now a daily affair across the nation, the reactions that followed her report were quite understandable.

However, three days later, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command debunked Sufyan’s claims, after it found her.

Reacting to her Tweets, the FCT Police Command had said on Friday that: “The Federal Capital Territory Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the viral news of the alleged kidnapping of one Safiyanu Amira and seventeen (17) others who were reportedly abducted at gunpoint by Armed men in Police uniform on Tuesday 14th June 2022 at about 1:00 pm and to state that Safiyanu Amira is currently safe in Police custody.

“While she is currently in the hospital receiving medical attention as demanded by global best practices, the investigation continues and findings will be communicated subsequently.”

Quoting her earlier fake alert, Sufyan said the drama she created was caused by her “delusions and negative thinking.”

“I would like to thank the IG and the CP Babaji Sunday for helping me through this. May God reward them abundantly.”
