The member representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency, Dr. Okechukwu Okoye, has been beheaded days after he was kidnapped by gunmen.
His freshly severed head was found on Saturday at the Chisco Park in Amichi community, in Idemili Local Government Area of the State.
Until his kidnap last Sunday by unknown gunmen, Dr. Okoye represented Aguata II Constituency in the House of Assembly, where governor Soludo hails from.
In a viral video, Okoye’s head is seen placed in a carton by the roadside sparsely covered by weeds, with two handwritten notes by the side, placed by ‘Unknown gunmen”. The note warned politicians to remove all soldiers from ‘Biafraland”.
Soludo had confirmed Okoye’s kidnap on Thursday, during his presentation of the State’s 2022 revised budget to the House of Assembly. While regretting the lawmaker’s abduction the governor had given an assurance that he would be rescued soon.
Okoye’s murder comes a few days after Soludo visited Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, which is campaigning for the independence of Nigeria’s Southeast region.
Kanu is standing trial for an alleged felony and has been incarcerated in Nigeria’s Federal Capital, Abuja.
