The mini convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) initially scheduled for July 20 has been postponed until further notice.

According to a statement by the party on Thursday, the postponement was necessitated by the upcoming Ramadan fast.

Just before the postponement, the Ogun State chapter of the party petitioned the party’s hierarchy, opposing the organisation of an election to replace ejected National Secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

In the petition addressed to Chairman of the PDP Special Convention, Prof. Jerry Gana, Chairman and Secretary of the state chapter, Adebayo Dayo and Semiu Shodipo argued that it would be inappropriate to replace Oyinlola through the proposed Southwest congress.

They further argued that the proposed Southwest Zonal Congress contravenes a court pronouncement on the matter, and warned that the planned July 11 convention in the zone aimed at electing Oyinlola’s successor should shelved

The former Governor of Osun State lost his office after a Federal High Court voided the zonal congress on which platform he emerged as candidate for the position.
