The Nigerian Government on Monday filled eight fresh terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.
This has raised the number of charges against Kanu to 15.
The amendment of the charges filed before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja came less than 24 hours to the scheduled commencement of hearing by trial Justice Binta Nyako in the Nigerian capital city on Tuesday.
Kanu has been in detention in Abuja since June 2021, when he was repatriated from Kenya where he was allegedly arrested after he fled Nigeria in 2017. Since then he has faced seven charges bothering on terrorism.
With the latest development, Kanu will now make his pleas to the 15 charges listed in the suit with the number FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015.
