Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State and National Leader of ruling All Progressives Congress, has said he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to vie for the Presidency in 223.

There have been rumours of Tinubu’s ambition to become Nigeria’s next president when Buhari’s second and last term ends next year, but this is the first time has spoken on it openly.

“I can answer a categorical yes. I have informed the President of my intention, but I have not informed the Nigerians yet. I am still consulting,” Tinubu said in an interview on Television Continental, TVC.

“I have no problem consulting and I have not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people will I consult,” he added.

“You will soon hear all you want to hear. It’s a categorical declaration. You’ve gotten that truth from me that I have informed Mr President of my ambition, and you don’t expect more answers like that,” Tinubu explained.

In an interview on privately owned Channels TV on Thursday, Buhari said he had no anointed successor, declaring that he did not care about whoever succeeds him.

Ask to make a few comments on some the year 2023, the president said: “2023 is not my problem, I don’t care who succeeds me, let the person come, whoever the person is.

According to the president, “All important things I make sure I put them on record. Nobody should ask me to come and give any evidence in court, otherwise, whoever it is will be in trouble.

He went further to declare that he did not have a favourite for 2023 in his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, nor does he have a chosen successor. He explained the reason for his position.

“I wouldn’t because he will be eliminated before I mention, it is better I keep it a secret,” the president said.
