Nigerian popular socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, known as Obi Cubana, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Cubana was arrested by the EFCC in Abuja on Monday on allegations bordering on money laundering and tax fraud.
His release was first announced by a social media user, Instigator_ph, who disclosed this via Instagram late on Tuesday.
“Thank u Jesus!! @obi_cubana is free. We gat Jesus!!! . Dis Dance is for all my fans. I love u all,” the user wrote.
This was followed by Cubana himself, who wrote on Instagram, obviously to his numerous supporters: “I love you all… Unbroken”.
Unconfirmed reports say he will be prosecuted for currency abuse, tax fraud, and money laundering.
Cubana, aged 46 years, attracted global attention during the burial of his mother earlier this year when tens of his supporters and fellow celebrities were seen spraying on him bundles of currency notes, in contravention of Central Bank of Nigeria law that forbids spraying of the Naira.
