A yet-to-be ascertained number of people are said to be trapped under a 21-story building that collapsed in Lagos on Monday afternoon.
The building, said to be under construction is located along Gerald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos’ highbrow area.
Those trapped under the rubble are said to be mainly people who were working on at the site.
The site of the building has since been cordoned off by Policemen from Area A Command and Ikoyi Police Station.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in the South-West Region confirmed the incident.
Rescue operators and medical teams are on their way.
The collapse of buildings, both old and under construction, is becoming rampant in Nigeria’s commercial centre. Authorities blame it on the use of sub-standard materials as well as the use of unqualified builders.
