The Central Bank of Nigeria has asked Nigerians to discountenance reports that the eNaira platform has crashed just 48 hours after its official launch on Monday, October 25.
It said that it merely stepped down the eNaira speed wallet, the app for eNaira personal wallet, for an upgrade.
Sources at the bank dismissed reports that the eNaira website had crashed, pointing out that what many people had reported as a glitch was simply that the Speed wallet was stepped down from the Google Play Store on Wednesday.
They noted however that the eNaira merchant wallet was still available on the Play Store. The merchant wallet is for those who want to vend in eNaira.
Downloads of the app have crossed the 10,000 mark by Wednesday on the Google Play Store.
These developments came as the central bank warned the Nigerian public about fake social media handles for the currency.
In a statement issued Wednesday by its spokesman, Osita Nwanisobi, the Director, Corporate Communications, CBN said its attention had been drawn to criminal and illegal activities of some individuals and a fraudulent Twitter handle, @enaira_cbdc purported to belong to the Bank.
