Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of All Progressives Congress, has declared that only God can take his life.
Tinubu made the declaration on Sunday, in a “Thank you speech” he gave at a party to welcome him back home after a three-month medical trip to the United Kingdom.
The party was organised by the Lagos State Governor Bababjide Samwo-Olu, on behalf of the state government, and held at the Lagos House, on the Marina.
The party was dubbed “Welcome Back Home Asiwaju.”
Those who attended the party included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governor, Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Femi Hamzat. Others were the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, among others.
“I’m a little emotional now but I’m happy. God is the Giver of life and the only One who can take life. And He (God) says; if I grant you the power and the privilege in this life; I am the only One who can take it from you if you don’t use it in the way and manner that promotes humanity. God can give power to anyone he wills,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu returned to Lagos on Friday to the warm embrace of Sanwo-Olu, who received him at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
Reports of Tinubu’s death were rampant in social media until some top politicians visited him in London. One of the earliest visitors to him was President Muhammadu Buhari, whose picture with Tinubu helped to dispel the rumours.
“It is the same God that has spared us till today and has given us the privilege. I give glory to God because I’m standing before you hale, hearty and well. Today is a day of joy for me, having fixed today for this great event. We are here giving praises to God. May God bless all of you in attendance. I am grateful. I cannot say more than that today. Thank you all,” Tinubu announced to his political protégés at the event, Tinubu said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the event, declare, “We have countless reasons to be grateful to God for bringing Asiwaju back home, fully rejuvenated…We give glory to God who brought you (Tinubu) back with sound health and stronger vigour.”
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State is rumoured to be eyeing the presidency come 2023. While he is yet to formally declare an interest, his supporters are increasing by the day. A day before his arrival from the UK, Sanwo-Olu had inaugurated what is known as the South West Agenda or SWAGA, which is known to be Tinubu’s presidential support platform in Nigeria’s South West, his home base.
