Nigeria Police in different towns on Saturday fired tear gas to disperse groups who gathered to execute their planned protests against sundry issues.

At the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos, police fired tear gas at protesters who gathered there to begin their protests.

The Park, named after a late Nigerian activist lawyer, is the gathering place for the June 12 Democracy Day protest in Lagos state.

Some Nigerian youths planned to embark on the protests to express their dissatisfaction with rising levels of insecurity and bad governance in the country.

In Oshogbo, Osun State, youths also gathered in large numbers at the popular Oke-Fai terminus for the June 12 rally but were met by a heavy presence of Police and other security agents.

In the buildup to the protests, the Police high command had warned the groups planning the protests to back off, noting that violators would be dealt with.

In Abuja, Nigeria’s  capital city, there were two groups of protesters, with one of them supporting the government under the #IstandwithBuhari  banner.

However, the group members had a disagreement that led to fight among them at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.

It was gathered that the discontent in the group had to do with disagreement over the sharing of monetary resources meant for organising the counter protests.
