The deadly assault on Police officers and facilities in parts of southern Nigeria continued on Sunday as unknown Sunday killed three police officers in an attack on Nsukwa Police Divisional Office in Aniocha South Local Government Area in Delta State.

The three officers killed were part of the four on duty, while the fourth was seriously wounded.  The burnt police motorcycles parked at the premises as well vehicles and carted away police ammunition, in the attack that took place about 1 a, Sunday, according to sources.

Attacks on police personnel and facilities by the faceless group, known simply as ‘unknown gunmen”, has intensified in the southern part of Nigeria, especially in the southeast and south-south geopolitical regions.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, the federal government has always pointed accusing fingers on the Indigenous People of Biafra and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network. IPOB and the ESN are demanding independence for the South East.

Nsukwa residents say they were woken from sleep by sporadic gunshots from the attackers, who they said laid in wait in a bush near the police station.
