Twenty-seven students of the Federal College of Forestry, Kaduna who were kidnapped by a gang of gunmen have been released by their captors, after nearly three months.
The student spent 57 days in the kidnappers’ den, following their kidnap on March 11, when thirty-nine of them were taken from the school.
Their release was announced on Wednesday by Kaduna by Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, and Commissioner of Police Umar Muri, who received them.
Two of the students escaped the day of their abduction, while the gunmen released 10 of them in batches, leaving 27 of them behind.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N500 million for the students.
In a video released by the kidnappers, in the early days of the abduction, the gunmen could be seen beating the students, urging them to call on the government to pay the ransom.
They also asked the students to admonish the government not to contemplate any rescue operation, as that would lead to their death.
While the 27 students regained their freedom, 16 others from Greenfield University, also in Kaduna State, are still in bondage with their abductors.
Their kidnappers had threatened to kill them on Tuesday if their demand for N100m and 10 Boko Haram motorcycles were not delivered to them.
Nobody knows what fate has befallen them. The gunmen had previously killed five of the students.
