Boko Haram insurgents and unidentified gunmen have gone on a killing and kidnapping spree in various parts of Nigeria this weekend, killing at least five persons and abducting no less than 40 men and women.
Boko Haram fighters killed five persons and abducted at least 30 women when they attacked Kwapre, a village in Hong local government area of Adamawa. It is located on the Adamawa-Borno borders near the notorious Sambisa forest.
In Niger State, gunmen attacked Gurmana Community in Shiroro Local Government Area, killing one person and abducted 10 others.
Both attacks took place on Friday. In the Adamawa attack, the attackers were said to have shot sporadically, fight the frightened residents scampering into bushes for safety as the invaders went ahead to destroy houses and other property before carting the women away.
In Niger, the gunmen invaded the community in broad daylight, riding on motorcycles and also shooting shot sporadically to scare residents. They were said to have moved from house to house, carting away valuables and setting others ablaze.
In Ekiti State, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, ambushed a first-class traditional ruler in Ekiti State, the Elewu of Ewu-Ekiti, in Ilejemeje local government area, Oba Adetutu Ajayi.
The Oba was waylaid on Friday evening as he journeyed Ayetoro-Ekiti when the attackers emerged from the bush, firing bullets into his car.
Although the Oba escaped, he was said to have received bullet wounds is now in a hospital.
