President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of the Usman Alkali Baba, Deputy Inspector-General, as Acting Inspector-General of Police.

Maigari Dingyadi, the Minister of Police Affairs, announced this to State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday.

The appointment takes immediate effect, Dingyadi said.

Buhari on February 4, 2021, extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the IGP for three months as his tenure ended. Adamu has since then continued in his roles as the nation’s Police chief.

Born on March 1, 1963, Baba hails from Geidam in Yobe State.

He has served as Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters, and also as DIG Force CID.

Baba has a BA (Ed) Political Science from Bayero University, Kano, and a Master’s in Public Administration, from the University of Maiduguri.
