The Presidency has revealed that it has made shocking discoveries on the sponsors of Boko Haram and bandits.

The revelation came a few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the nation’s security chiefs to locate and take out kidnappers, bandits, their sponsors and leaders.

 

The presidency restated its earlier claim that a link had been established between kidnapping for ransom, banditry, and Boko Haram sponsorship in the country.

Nigeria is currently witnessing its worst peace-time insecurity as bandits, kidnappers and other armed groups roam the country’s forests, highways, urban centers, schools, and farmlands carting Nigerians away to negotiate for ransom.

Those sponsoring the attacks include some bureau de change operators with contacts outside the country, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, said.

“It is shocking to any Nigerian that places of worship and farmland are places where killers of policemen and security officials are being harboured, Shehu said on Channels TV.

He said there is evidence that money is being sent from United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Boko Haram leaders.

Shehu confirmed that a statement made by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, that Boko Haram sponsors are behind banditry and kidnapping, was a product of intelligence gathering.

Already, many people have been arrested while those involved would be exposed after investigation, Shehu said.

Shehu warned that there would be no sacred cows,  even if those engaged in the acts turned out to be politicians.

 “The new Service chiefs are working with the IG and heads of intelligence agencies and there is a clear lead,” he said, adding that a lot of people had already been arrested in connection with their financing of terrorism.
